Today, I'm going to share my experience in wiring my Reolink WIFI doorbell with a network ethernet cable to have a more solid and wired connection and making it WIFI jam proof. Adding an additional CAT5E or CAT 6 cabling to your existing doorbell wiring needs a bit of planning and will depending on your current setup. I was just lucky that my wiring is not staples on to the studs but still needs work to pull new wiring in to the attic. Product link: 🤍 I’m replacing a video doorbell with a new wi-fi video Doorbell sent to me by ReoLink. In this video, I’ll be covering the basic installation process. I’ve been using ReoLink home security cameras for a few years, so switching our old video doorbell with this one to be on the same system was a no brainer for me. My favorite part about this doorbell is you don’t need an annual subscription, and a plug-in chime is included in the kit. ReoLink offers two different doorbell models, and I’ll just be covering the Wi-Fi version in this video (this Wi-Fi version is the easier option if you have a good Wi-Fi signal and existing doorbell wires). The Ethernet model requires an ethernet cable running from the doorbell to a ReoLink NVR recording system. I prefer wired cameras so I don’t need to depend on my wireless internet connection, but I don’t have an ethernet wire running to my front door, so that wasn’t an option for me. To get started, all the mounting hardware and the instructions are in the box. I recommend downloading the app before you get started using the QR code in the directions. Once it’s downloaded, you can turn off the power to the old doorbell and disconnect it. The doorbell wires may only be 12-24 volts, but you should still contact an electrician if you’re not familiar with electrical. A wedge is included in the package if you need to angle the view, but I won’t be needing it for my home. Using the mounting template, a pencil and a level, I marked the holes and drilled in the first screw. Depending on your siding, you may need to pre-drill the holes first and use the included wall anchors. Next, I attached the white and red wires. Since it’s AC, it doesn’t matter which wire goes to each screw. They also include extension jumpers if you need a little extra wire length. I should note that even though there’s a slot for an ethernet cable, it’ll only work for the ethernet doorbell model since they use the same body for both models, but if you DO have the ethernet model, you’d plug it in here and then into your NVR video system. Once the doorbell is powered on, and you like the positioning - just hook it onto the top of the wall bracket, then push it in on the bottom. The app setup on your phone is quick and easy. You’ll open the ReoLink app, and tap the PLUS sign on top. Next, you’ll scan the QR code on the back of the camera, choose how your camera is connected, enter your home internet information and a few other quick steps. Next is the doorbell chime setup. You’ll plug it into an outlet, push the doorbell button, and answer a couple simple questions to configure the device. Please note that your old mechanical doorbell will likely not operate with any video doorbell. The #reolink video doorbell can not be connected to your existing chime with the connected wires. Not on the Wifi or PoE version. This is a problem if you want to keep using your existing chimes, electronic or mechanical. Fortunately, the Reolink doorbell sends a wireless signal to the Reolink wireless chime. This wireless signal can be used in combination with a standard 433MHz receiver. This receiver can then activate your existing doorbell chime. It is easy to do this. Disconnect the doorbell switch and connect those wires to the wireless receiver. This receiver will act as the doorbell switch. The wireless receiver needs to be powered by a 12 volt DC power adapter. Then connect the Reolink doorbell to the supplied power adapter as described in the manual. Press the learn button on the wireless receiver and Press the Reolink doorbell button. The Reolink doorbell is now working with your existing chimes! see link to the module in the comments below.
