The BMW X1 M35i is a high-performance version of the X1 subcompact SUV. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The X1 M35i can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. The car comes fitted with a seven-speed Steptronic gearbox with shift paddles, and if you pull the left paddle for at least one second, the M Sport Boost function activates, and all the powertrain and chassis systems are switched to their sportiest setting. Naturally, the X1 M35i features xDrive 4WD, which includes a mechanical limited-slip differential on the front axle with a locking factor of up to 26%. This increases traction over loose terrain or in adverse weather conditions at the same time as boosting agility and handling dynamics when taking corners at speed. The X1 M35i comes with 19” wheels as standard, with 20” items available as an option, and Adaptive M Suspension also comes as standard, with the M35i sitting 15mm lower compared to other X1s. The X1 M35i also features an integrated braking system which generates a degree of stopping power that is matched exactly to the driver’s inputs, while also providing excellent feedback via the brake pedal. It brings together the brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a compact module, while an electric actuator is used to trigger the required brake pressure. For the first time in X1’s history, the entry-level crossover will gain an M Performance version later in 2023. It’s been spotted repeatedly undergoing testing, much like in this new spy video shot during a rainy day near Munich. The X1 M35i was seen waiting in line at an intersection while flaunting quad exhaust tips and blue M-branded brake calipers. Despite the camouflage, it’s easy to see a more aggressive design for the front bumper and what appears to be a beefier roof spoiler. Logic tells us BMW will sell the X1 M35i with chunkier brakes and a stiffer suspension setup with a slightly lowered ride height to improve handling. Vibrant colors, fresh alloy wheel designs, and interior tweaks are also on the menu in a bid to justify the premium it’ll command over the xDrive28i. The latter is the only version of the compact luxury crossover available in the United States where lesser gasoline engines and front-wheel-drive models along with the electric iX1 are not sold. It goes without saying the X1 M35i will be offered strictly with xDrive and an automatic transmission. Meet the new BMW X1! It’s the entry-level SUV in BMW’s line-up, and Mat’s about to find out if it’s the must-have choice compared to other premium small SUVs. For starters, this may be the smallest BMW SUV around, but it’s seemingly grown in size compared to the previous edition. If anything, it looks more like an X3! There have been a number of other design changes too, from a bigger grille up front and a redesigned front and rear bumper. There are a number of other, smaller touches as well, including flush door handles on either side. Step inside and just like any BMW, you’re treated to a high-quality interior. There are good quality, soft-touch materials across the dash and the top of the doors, and the centre console is comfortable and well laid out. There’s lots of storage to be found throughout the cabin, and the infotainment screen & digital dials are pretty smart, too. Overall it’s a pretty good experience in the X1, although there are some annoying bits of plastic to be found on the steering wheel! There are a couple of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, with the range-topper currently a 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 218hp. However, there’s more choice coming in the future, including two plug-in hybrids as well as an all-electric edition, the iX1! For the first time in X1’s history, the entry-level crossover will gain an M Performance version later in 2023. It’s been spotted repeatedly undergoing testing, much like in this new spy video shot during a rainy day near Munich. The X1 M35i was seen waiting in line at an intersection while flaunting quad exhaust tips and blue M-branded brake calipers. Despite the camouflage, it’s easy to see a more aggressive design for the front bumper and what appears to be a beefier roof spoiler. Logic tells us BMW will sell the X1 M35i with chunkier brakes and a stiffer suspension setup with a slightly lowered ride height to improve handling. Vibrant colors, fresh alloy wheel designs, and interior tweaks are also on the menu in a bid to justify the premium it’ll command over the xDrive28i. The latter is the only version of the compact luxury crossover available in the United States where lesser gasoline engines and front-wheel-drive models along with the electric iX1 are not sold. It goes without saying the X1 M35i will be offered strictly with xDrive and an automatic transmission. Essentially the same hardware is likely to be implemented in the next-generation MINI Countryman John Cooper Works (JCW) scheduled to arrive in the coming years.
